On November 20, 2020, President Russell M. Nelson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, gave a message to the world emphasizing the healing power of gratitude and offered a prayer of unity, relief, healing, and gratitude for the world.
He gave a challenge to turn your social media into your own gratitude journal for seven days. I am so EXCITED to do this challenge! It will be refreshing to see all the posts on positive things and people who are sharing stories of gratitude, acts of kindness, respect, and unity. I’ve done similar challenges to be more grateful in my life and I always feel so uplifted and refreshed. It’s like a positive cleanse for my mind and spirit.

I LOVE his personal stories of being a heart surgeon. He is so real and relatable as he talks about losing his sweet wife, Dantzel, and not being able to save her, even though he was trained to do that very thing. He expresses his sorrow in losing two of his daughters to cancer. He has been through trials and has lived to tell that gratitude has gotten him through.
I was especially touched by his prayer for the world. He included those who are in the first lines of fighting against COVID-19. I currently work in the COVID-19 Response and have seen FIRST-HAND the hours, effort, and heartbreak that comes with working with those who have COVID-19. They work all hours of the day and night, work weekends and holidays, show up when even the job seems endless and with no hope in sight. President Nelson’s prayer gave me the encouragement to keep helping in the fight and I know it helped others who are working tirelessly too.
I encourage you to watch the prophet’s message. Whether you are religious or not, having an attitude of gratitude is uplifting for your soul, your spirit, and your mental health. It will help heal hearts, feel appreciation, and focus on the positive things in your life. I know if we do, we CAN be happy human beings and GET through anything life will throw at us. 😉
